Please read our Privacy Policy carefully before using this website ("the Site"). In this Policy "we", "us" and "our" means Firstplus Financial Group PLC and “you” means the individual who is using the site.

how do we collect information about you?

We collect personal and financial information which we obtain from you when you provide us with data over the telephone, when you send us documents, or from any third parties when you apply for a loan or any other product or service or which you or they give us from time to time.

We also gather non-personal data regarding the visitors to our site through the use of cookies. We use cookies and code, which are embedded, in our site. These provide us with non-personal statistical information such as which web pages visitors look at, how long they stay on our site for, and other general information.

We may record both incoming and outgoing calls.

how will we use the information we collect about you?

We will store and process your information on the Firstplus Financial Group PLC computers and in any other way. By "your information" we mean personal and financial information we:

a. obtain from you or from third parties, such as credit reference agencies (who may search the Electoral Register), fraud prevention agencies or other organisations when you apply for any loan or any other product or service for which you or they give to us at any other time, or
b. learn from the way you manage your loan

We and other companies forming part of the same Group as Firstplus will use your information to manage your loan, give you statements and provide our services, for assessment and analysis (including credit and/or behaviour scoring, market and product analysis), and to develop and improve our services to you and other customers and protect our interests.

We and companies forming part of the same Group as Firstplus Financial Group PLC will use your information to inform you by letter, telephone (including automated dialling), and email about products and services (including those of other carefully selected companies) which may be of interest to you. If you would rather we didn't tell you about other products and services please write to us at Data Protection Co-ordinator, Firstplus Financial Group PLC, The Avenue Business Park, Cardiff, CF23 8FF and supply us with details of your request.

credit and insurance products
We will check your details with fraud prevention agencies, and if false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies. Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when:

  • checking details on applications for credit and credit related accounts or other facilities
  • managing credit and credit related accounts or other facilities
  • recovering debt
  • checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance
  • checking details of job applicants and employees

Please contact the Compliance Department at Firstplus Financial Group PLC, The Avenue Business Park, Cardiff, CF23 8FF, if you want to receive details of the relevant fraud prevention agencies. We and other organisations may access and use information recorded by fraud prevention agencies from other countries. If you do not provide information that is relevant to the service requested, we may not be able to offer you the service you require. Information from this application and the subsequent management of the account will be maintained on both our accounting systems and central databases.

credit products only
Credit reference agencies collate information about how people in a household manage the money they borrow from lenders, whether it be a mortgage, personal loan, credit card, overdraft, or any other type of loan. When making lending decisions we will carry out a search with one or more licensed credit reference agencies, who will retain a record of the search, which will be seen by other organisations that make searches. This information will be used in a decision making process called ‘credit scoring’. If your application is declined you may have the right of appeal. We may also make further searches during the term of the agreement to assist in the management of your account.

Information held about you and your account by the credit reference agencies may already be linked or ‘associated’ to records relating to your partner or anyone you may be financially ‘associated’ with. Your ability to claim credit will be influenced by the records held by the credit reference agency on you or any person associated with you in this way. Another person’s records will be ‘associated’ with yours, by us, when:

  • you make a joint application
  • you advise us of a financial association with another person
  • the credit reference agencies have existing linked or ‘associated’ records

This ‘association’ will link your records at the credit reference agencies and will be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This shall continue until one of you applies to the credit reference agencies and is successful in filing a ‘disassociation’. You MUST therefore ensure when making a joint application or advising us of some other financial association that you are entitled to:

  • disclose information about your joint application
  • authorise us to search, link or record information at a credit reference agency/ies about you and anyone referred to by you

On a monthly basis, we will give credit reference agencies details about payments you make to us and the status of your account, to help us and other lenders make credit decisions about you (and the people associated with you) in the future. If you exceed agreed limits, and the amount owed is not in dispute, and you fail to make satisfactory repayment proposals following our formal demand, we may register this with credit reference agencies.

will we share or disclose your information with anyone else?

The only times we will disclose information about you are:

  • where we have your consent
  • if it is in the public interest to do so
  • where we are required to do so by law and voluntary codes
  • to our agents and others who do work on our behalf
  • to obtain quotes from providers of insurance on an ongoing basis

We will use and share information:

  • to administer your account
  • to prevent fraudulent activity or assist with debt recovery
  • for customer surveys
  • for management surveys
  • to help Firstplus build a picture of you for credit/insurance assessment and marketing purposes

If we transfer your information to a service provider or agent in another country, we will make sure that the service provider or agent agrees to apply the same levels of protection as we are required to apply to information held in the UK and to use your information only for the purpose of providing the service to us.

Firstplus is a Barclays Bank PLC Group company and we may keep information about your application on a central Group database. If you have any agreements, accounts or policies with companies within the Group, they can update your details on the database. Any Barclays Group company can access your information if you make a new application, or if they need to check your identity, prevent fraud, or recover outstanding debts.

If you have been introduced to us by a third party (your financial adviser, for instance), and apply through them, we will share information with them about you, your application and its result. They may use this to send you details of other products and services.

how long will we keep your personal information on file?

We will not keep your information for longer than is necessary and will take steps to ensure that it is kept up to date. You have a right under the Data Protection Act 1998 to obtain a copy of the information we hold about you, upon payment of the appropriate fee. You can do this by writing to us at Compliance Department, Firstplus Financial Group PLC, The Avenue Business Park, Cardiff, CF23 8FF.

sensitive data

The Data Protection Act defines certain information as sensitive. If you apply to us for insurance, we may ask you for some “sensitive” details. We will only use this information to provide the service you require. As a Firstplus customer, there may be times when you give us sensitive information. We may share this with other companies in the Barclays Group to keep your records up to date.
